There is a quick fix. They somehow screwed up the DNS settings for slack.com. 
To go around this you just need to replace the default DNS server (usually 
your ISP) with something else, the simplest is Google Public DNS. Here is a 
page that explains how to do it for different OS:

After I replaced the DNS server on my laptop, Slack immediately resumed all 
its functions.
