Dear Eduardo,
Tuomas has pointed out that proposers sometimes request phase-referencing observations with the GMVA,
which means rapid switching between calibrator and target.
Due to the short atmospheric coherence time (~10-20s) and limited antenna slewing speeds, this is technical
not possible. Even the VLVA would not be fast enough to accommodate a cycle time of order of 10s.
I add corresponding sentences on the GMVA web page (under Technical Guidelines and under Call for Proposals).
For future proposal calls you may want to consider to refer to this.
Thanks to Tuomas for helping to resolve this issue.
best regards, Thomas
